Overview
The G5 Contract Manager will create contracting documents for recreational trails,
USFS roads and related infrastructure, and ensure contractors are delivering results to
specification, on time, and in compliance with the terms and conditions of the contract.
The position will also be in the field to inspect, manage and protect the natural resource.
The candidate will be an employee of The G5 Trail Collective, working out of Camp
Grier in Old Fort, NC.
Knowledge and Skills
The candidate must:
●Have a bachelors degree in business, forestry, engineering, computer science,
construction management or a combination in related fields.
●Additional project management certification(s) are a plus.
●Experience of 2+ years in construction, project management or other contracting.
●Be able to create, negotiate and manage several budgets in a database and
related organizational skills.
●Be able to manage a projects’ scope, budget, timeline, risk and delivery.
●Have excellent communication skills, both verbally and written.
●Be able to negotiate through unexpected outcomes, changes showing flexibility
in complex situations.
●Experience with Gantt charts, project management software, spread sheets, and
related tracking tools, etc.
●Be physically fit, able to carry up to a 25lb backpack and able to hike up to 5
miles in uneven terrain.
●Having strong relationships with contractors, workers, land managers and staff.
have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a truck, trailers and other related
equipment for transport and conducting work.
Duties and Responsibilities
●Assist the G5 Director and G5 GIS Specialist in design, mapping, flagging and
related field notes for construction documents.
●Assist the G5 Director in creating contracts for road repair, bridge repair, trail
construction, engineering, trail maintenance and other related infrastructure on
Forest Service land. All contracts are in collaboration with USFS and G5/Camp
Grier staff.
●Monitor and inspect trail construction and trail maintenance contracts to ensure
contractors are adhering to contract specifications and timelines.
●Assess and prescribe solutions to construction related problems.
●Manage a database containing all related contracts, timelines, contractors and
other contacts.
Physical Demands
The candidate will occasionally lift, push, pull and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Work will routinely require walking multiple miles over rough and uneven terrain.
Work Environment
The employee will have office space at Camp Grier, but may work anywhere within
driving distance of McDowell County. Most of the inspection work will be performed in a
mountainous, forested environment where the terrain may be steep, uneven, rocky, wet,
and covered with thick and tangled vegetation. Work can occur in inclement weather
(rain, snow, freezing temperatures or temperatures over 100 degrees Fahrenheit) and
under dusty conditions. Work requires the use of safety equipment such as boots,
gloves, goggles, and hardhats.

Salary
$50,000 a year
Benefits
Retirement- Camp Grier will match, up to 3%, of an employee contribution to the Camp
Grier employment retirement plan.
Time off- Camp Grier will provide three weeks of paid time off to be used at the
employee's discretion.
