King George III allowed his Royal Governors to issue land grants in the area of the Catawba River When the Colonies broke away from England the British Indian Agents encouraged the Cherokee to drive off the rebel settlers War chief Old Abram attacked the refugees at Davidson’s Fort, which was located on the tribes hunting grounds in July 1776 On August 17, 2024 the siege of Davidson’s Fort will be reenacted. Come on out and see how the Militia gets prepared to fight off Cherokees to defend the fort Hours are 10am to 4pm There will be demonstrators of Colonial Crafts, Hands on Toys and Games, Rug makers and Native American pottery. Along with that learn the Bear Dance; learn to play Stick Ball, Tomahawk throwing, and Archery. Witness the battle in the afternoon and many other scenarios to be acted out.
