Scorecard Playoff Decides 2019 Chamber Golf Tournament

Marion Lake Club 2019 McDowell Chamber Spring Golf ClassicSunny skies and smiling faces prevailed at the Marion Lake Club Golf Course this past Friday as golfers showed up to hit the links at The McDowell Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Spring Golf Classic. Twenty teams played in the Captain’s Choice-style tournament sponsored by Countryside Catering, Duke Energy, Holly’s Deli, Miller Realty & Development, Mountain Ridge Health & Rehab, and South McDowell Quarry. MLC Golf Pro Greg Parker and Chamber Executive Director Steve Bush sent players in two flights off on the greens in search of big prizes.
Taking home first place in a scorecard playoff and $400 in the First Flight with a score of 64 was Crane Resistoflex Team made up of Jonathan Barham, Jennifer Murray, Brad Allen, and Donnie Lytle. Second Flight first place winner (also $400) with a score of 53 was Coley’s Graphics; Kim Coley, Carrie Jackson, Mike Lewis, and Chase Holland. Second place winners in both flights took home $200 per team and bragging rights. The McDowell Cornerstone Credit Union came in with a score of 64 followed by the GEM Constructors Team with a 54.
Other big winners for the day were Robert Frick of Talent Force winning the longest drive prize ($50) and Kim Coley with closest to the pin on hole 11. She won $25 and two tickets to an Asheville Tourist Game!
Following the final flight, JC Property Professional’s John Seaman positioned the bucket truck for the big Ball Drop where 350 balls tumbled onto the green. It came down to the wire as no ball made it into the hole, but two came very close. Parker and Bush (pictured L to R on the green below) broke out the measuring tape on this one.  The official winner of the 50/50 Raffle was Marsh Dark, whose lucky ball 212 won him $660.
