New Internet Provider Celebrates Ribbon Cutting
On Tuesday, October 12, Bridge Internet of McDowell County celebrated their tower in Nebo with a ribbon cutting at the McDowell Chamber of Commerce offices. Bridge Internet is an internet service provider that is working to bring internet to areas across the United States. It is no secret broadband is a consistent roadblock for many people who do not have adequate access to internet. Bridge Internet’s tower, located in Nebo, will seek to help combat the broadband needs of the greater McDowell County community.
Brian Rathbone has been a broadband planner for 20 years and when he moved to Rutherford County, he had no internet. His passion for addressing broadband awareness comes from being someone who struggled to find reliable internet service in Western North Carolina. Brett Osteen, a developer in South Carolina, has been working to develop Bridge Internets across the United States.
Bridge Internet goes where other internet providers aren’t because their goal is to meet the needs of underserved markets. Because Bridge Internet is privately funded (meaning not seeking government funding), and this benefits them. It can be challenging to receive government funding for broadband expansion because the need is so great in many regions across the country.
