New Coffee Shop Opens in Old Fort
On Monday, June 15, 2020, one of Old Fort’s newest businesses drew an intimate crowd of supporters to celebrate a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the McDowell Chamber of Commerce. The Mill Creek Mug, located in the former Parker Hosiery building, is a much desired addition to the Town of Old Fort. “We are excited to provide a hometown coffee shop,” said owner Amy Parker, who expressed gratitude to the entire group in attendance.
Local dignitaries and community supporters were on hand to express their support. Mayor Rick Hensley welcomed Parker by saying, “Congratulations on the new business that is bound to be hugely successful.” Mayor Pro-Tem, Jamie Grindstaff, with Aldermen Jerome Effler, Melvin Lytle, Andrew Carlton and Wayne Stafford joined in the celebration, along with community friends and neighbors.
Chamber Executive Director Steve Bush, Associate Director Kim Effler, and several board members were also in attendance. “Thank you for investing in our community,” said board secretary Stacy Buff as the chamber presented Parker with a commemorative pin that read “Turning Opportunity and Vision into Reality.” The reality of this exciting new business has provided The Town of Old fort with a business that is destined to become a great community meeting space.

The Mill Creek Mug is open Monday – Friday (7a.m. – 3p.m.), and Saturday (8a.m. – 3p.m.). The shop is located in the old Parker Hosiery Building on Catawba Avenue.
