The company has a long history and made a name for itself in Florida as the working people's store. Opened in 1915 by Robert M. Beall, Sr. at 22 years of age, The Dollar Limit opened as a dry goods store in the small pioneer community of Bradentown (now Bradenton), Fl. He stocked the shelves of that first store using his entire savings of $2,500 and nothing cost more than a $1! Inflation following World War I drove prices up to $5 and changed the name to Five Dollar Limit. Through the years the company experienced steady growth as generation after generation of the Beall family put their own unique stamp on the business. The Burkes Outlet concept was launched in 1987 under the leadership of E.R. Beall (Robert Beall's son) who had become intrigued with the outlet businesses popping up throughout North Carolina. Today there are more than 500 Burkes Outlet store across the United States.
