MHM Awarded Best Place To Have A Baby!
Mission Hospital McDowell has been recognized for the second year in a row by Newsweek as a 2021 Best Maternity Hospital. The designation said hospital CEO Carol Wolfenbarger, " ... is a testimony to the continued compassionate and expert care that our obstetric and pediatric providers deliver consistently to our patients partnered with the excellence in nursing care provided by our Birth Center team."
Nancy Cooper, editor of Newsweek, notes that “this designation means your maternity care program is now ranked among the best in the United States, as verified by the 2020 Leapfrog Hospital Survey. We commend you for your extraordinary service to mothers, newborns, and all the families in your community.”
The list is compiled by The Leapfrong Group, an independent nonprofit that monitors the quality and safety of health care and powers the Newsweek Best Health Care series. Best Maternity Care Hospitals are hospitals that meet Leapfrog's tough standards for excellence in maternity care: hospitals that have low rates of C-section, episiotomy, and early elective deliveries, and follow important protocols to protect moms and babies. Though these are standards aligned with medical research and best practices, not all hospitals acheive them. Newseek's Best Maternity Care Hospitals are an elite group of hospitals demonstrating the highest perfomrance in the United States.
Mission Hospital McDowell was one of 217 entries in 36 states. Hospitals are judged in the following areas: Early Elective Delivery, NTSV C-Section, Episiotomy, Newborn Bilirubin Screening prior to Discharge, and Appropriate DVT Prophylaxis in Women Undergoing Cesarean Delivery. Entries must meet the stringent criteria by 90% in each area to make the list.
