Local Wins Bigfoot Dream Ride
The Chamber is proud to announce that local resident and former NC Works employee Mary Ledbetter of Pleasant Gardens won the Bigfoot Dream Ride that was auctioned off at the 2nd annual Bigfoot Festival on Saturday, September 14, 2019.
Hundreds of tickets were purchased with the hope of winning the specialized golf cart, customized by Clear Creek Golf and decked out with graphics by Pressley Made Graphics Design. The Golf Cart Raffle was presented by the Chamber of Commerce to fund scholarships for its Student LINC program.
"Mary was super excited," said Chamber Director Steve Bush. He added that she plans to use the cart to take her grandkids around the family farm. "I love it," she said.
Thousands of people from near and far crowded the downtown streets of Marion for what has become the city's largest festival. Vendor booths lined the streets, Bigfoot traveled up and down Main Street taking advantage of photo ops with festival goers young and old. There was Bigfoot calling contests, stories retold of sightings, and every imaginable Bigfoot-themed merchandise from hats, to Christmas ornaments.
The Chamber was pleased to see the number of people attending and the impact that has on local businesses. Downtown storefronts were painted with the hide-and-seek champ and business owners joined in the fun with products in honor of the hairy beast--think burgers to brews!
As for Mrs. Ledbetter, perhaps she and her grandchildren will find Bigfoot out on the farm one day.
