Feisty Crowd Joins in Celebrating Marion's New Retro-Arcade

On Thursday, January 30, 2020, one of Marion’s newest businesses drew a feisty crowd of supporters to celebrate in a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the McDowell Chamber of Commerce. The Feisty Goldfish, located in the Historic Depot District, is a Retro Arcade and Bar with a modern take on a classic idea. “The first month has been beyond our wildest dreams,” said co-owner Derek Poteat, who expressed gratitude to the entire community.

Local dignitaries and community supporters filled the first floor and enjoyed exploring the vast array of vintage pinball machines, arcade games, shuffleboard and foosball tables, giant-sized floor Chess, darts and much more.  “This is the coolest place I’ve ever been,” said Mayor Steve Little as he shared his experience playing shuffleboard.  The Mayor ended his speech by saying “Congratulations on an incredibly creative idea that is bound to be hugely successful”. Mayor Pro Tem, Juanita Doggett, council members Woody Ayers and Ann Harkey, and City Manager Bob Boyette joined in the celebration, along with Chuck Abernathy (MEDA) and Freddie Killough (MBA).

Chamber Executive Director Steve Bush, several board members and ambassadors were also in attendance.  “Thank you for investing in our community,” said board chair Carol Wolfenbarger, who presented Poteat with a commemorative pin that read “Turning Opportunity and Vision into Reality.”  This journey began as an idea on Poteat’s front porch several years ago.  Poteat and co-owners Steven and Amber Deel shared with the crowd their vision for this unique business.  “We wanted a place where everybody could come,” said Deel.  The Feisty Goldfish is family friendly and offers entertainment for all ages, young and old.  Without-a-doubt, the reality of this exciting new business has provided the City of Marion with a one-of-a-kind attraction.

The Feisty Goldfish offers a wide variety of non-alcoholic beverages, craft beers, domestic and imported brands, and other alcoholic beverages.  Local beers such as Mica Town and Hillman are available on tap.

The Feisty Goldfish is open seven days a week:  Monday – Thursday (4:00 p.m. – Midnight), Friday (4:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m.), Saturday (Noon – 2:00 a.m.), and Sunday (10:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.).
