Customer Service Representative

The City of Marion is accepting applications for a Customer Service Representative.

An employee in this class performs a variety of cashiering, cash receipting, billing and data entry tasks for the City’s centralized collections function.  The employee establishes and maintains customer utility accounts; generates and mails utility bills; handles customer inquiries related to opening and closing of utility accounts; prepares and monitors bank drafts; and prepares and verifies a variety of electronic and manual reports and records.  Collections duties include accepting payments for utility accounts including water and sewer, garbage, taxes, permits and tickets; providing receipts; posting transactions to appropriate accounts; and balancing the cash drawer daily.  Work also involve collecting, keying and balancing drop box payments and payments received through the mail.  Work involves attention to detail in properly accounting for money, records and balancing the cash drawer; heavy public contact functions; and coordination with other staff and departments within the City's organizational structure. Considerable tact, courtesy, firmness, and conflict resolution skills are required in these public contact functions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school supplemented by courses in business or accounting and some experience in collections, billing, customer service, and/or bank tellering; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Applicant must be proficient in computer operations and basic office equipment, have good oral and written communication skills, and be able to multitask in a high paced office environment.   Pre-employment drug test, criminal background check, and physical required.
