Hiring Salary/Pay Range: $34,966 - $38,463 depending upon experience and qualifications

Job Summary:
General Description of Duties:
An employee in this class participates in the maintenance of the City's facilities, equipment and systems which includes performing semi-skilled to skilled trades work. Tales work performed includes construction, plumbing, limited electrical and air conditioning and mechanical repair work, painting, plastering, dry walling, and carpentry, requiring basic to journey level skills, but no license is required in any of the trades. Building maintenance tasks include replacing bad plumbing fixtures and pipes and running lines; pressure washing buildings, doors, and windows; painting cross walks and parking stalls and patching and painting walls; replacing fixtures, outlets, lights, ballasts, lights on poles and bulbs, and running new wire (connection to power sources is contracted out); replacing filters on HVAC units and unstopping drains; and performing carpentry work to include building steps, cabinets, sheds, decks, and remodeling rooms in buildings. Work requires the use of a variety of mechanical tools and equipment such as power saws, power sanders, drills, air compressors, paint sprayers, pressure washers and various hand tools. The employee may also be called upon at any time to assist the other crews in the division with asphalt, concrete, storm drainage and grounds maintenance activities. Work requires exposure to inside and outside environments, in extreme cold and hot weather, and hazards in the work including exposures to loud noises, vibrations, proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working in high places, and exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and oils. The employee may also be subject to OSHA's final standards on blood borne pathogens. Work is performed under regular supervision in conformance with established standards and is periodically evaluated for productivity, efficiency, quality, safety, and adherence to established standards.
Essential Duties and Tasks: NOTE: An employee in this class may perform some or all duties:
- Performs a variety of semi-skilled to skilled level trades work in multiple trades such as electrical, carpentry, painting, plumbing and HVAC; ensures work is completed properly and in accordance with OSHA and City safety rules and policies.
- Responds to calls for service and work orders regarding facility maintenance, troubleshooting problems, and making repairs.
- Repairs and maintains interior and exterior lighting; installs and replaces lights, light fixtures and ballasts; installs and repairs switches and outlets.
- Maintains, repairs, and installs plumbing fixtures; unstops drains; installs valves; repairs leaks to toilet and kitchen plumbing fixtures; replaces pipes and drains.
- Performs minor maintenance on HAVC systems; replaces filters and belts and unstops drains.
- Performs general carpentry tasks including framing, drywall installation, building cabinets and steps; repairs and replaces doors, walls, windows; lays carpet and tile; repairs roofs; fabricates or repairs furniture and cabinets; builds park shelters and small storage buildings.
- Performs interior and exterior painting; pressure washes buildings, doors, windows, etc., to prepare for painting; paints cross walks and parking stalls within the City.
- Performs hanging and trimming of holiday and event decorations and banners.
- Performs set-up of tables, chairs, stages, sound systems, etc. for various events/functions.
- Assists other crews, as needed, with mowing and trimming at municipal facilities and in the city rights of way; cleaning facilities; and building curbs and patching roads with asphalt.
- Performs related duties as required.
Minimal Experience and Certifications:
- Graduation from high school and considerable experience in construction, electrical, plumbing, and other facilities maintenance type work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possession of a valid NC Class B CDL or ability to obtain with a specified time frame; Tanker Endorsement is preferred; possession of other certifications as determined by the City.
